Hugh Pressley is an award-winning educator with a passion for helping students succeed. After a distinguished career as a first-class petty officer in the United States Navy’s submarine force, Pressley used his GI Bill to return to school and earn a B.A. in English Education from Charleston Southern University, a Master of Education in Languages from the College of Charleston, and a Ph.D. in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University. He spent 6 years as an English teacher in public schools, culminating in Teacher of the Year honors for Florence 1 Schools.

At Coker, Pressley uses his expertise to guide our First-Year Experience program through innovative CU 101 activities, streamlined orientation events, re-imagined student cohorts, and focused recruitment of Coker Commissioners. He is also responsible for developing Coker’s latest Quality Enhancement Plan – First Take. We are happy to have Dr. Pressley as a vital part of our Coker family!
